James Lewis of Louisa Co VA is document for this research because of the 35/37 DNA match between a direct descendant of James and a direct descendant of Walden Lewis. The question is, "How are they related, exactly."
Using the names of James' children, speculation leads to the belief that this James might be descended from Zachary Lewis of Spotsylvania Co VA. According to Caroline Co VA Court Orders of 1756, there was a " Deed of Gift from James Lewis to Zachary Lewis." This is the only reference which connects the Lewises of Louisa County with the Zachary Lewis Family of Fredericksburg.
James Lewis was born c. 1772 in Spotsylvania Co VA. If our James is the son of James of Spotsylvania Co VA, he would have inherited considerable wealth and property upon the death of his father. Of note, the exact will for the elder James is not found. However, James did have considerable land dealings in Orange Co VA. This would have placed the younger James in the vicinity of other members of the Zachary Lewis family.
On 8/20/1794 in Orange Co VA James married Nancy Ann Watkins b. c. 1774 Louisa Co VA. If James is a descendant of Zachary Lewis, he would have inherited lands in Louisa Co VA where he and Nancy lived the remainder of their lives.
